TRACY’S JOURNEY

Oct 15, 2014 | Announcements, Employee

Tracy (our office manager) is a breast cancer survivor. She is one of more than 2.9 million women who have either survived breast cancer or are undergoing treatment. To put this in perspective, a women living in the US has a 1 in 8 chance that, in her lifetime, she will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Tracy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 after a routine mammogram. For over a year, Tracy went through multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatment. Her strength through this journey was incredible. Tracy has made many fabulous friends who have gone through, or are still going through, the same thing. She is now involved with multiple charities and groups for breast cancer survivors. She volunteers with Casting for Recovery. She is also involved with Camp Mak-A-Dream, Sisters on the Fly and Susan G. Koman.

This journey has been a life changing event for Tracy. One of the hardest things for Tracy was asking for help during her time of need. Whether it was a ride to chemotherapy, getting her house cleaned or the need to have a meal made, she had so many amazing friends and family in her life that helped when she asked.

A bit of advice that Tracy has for anyone going through breast cancer, “If you have any hesitation with your surgeon or oncologist, find a new one that you feel comfortable with and can talk too easily”.
Be aware and get your routine checks. It may save your life.
